The Greek philosopher Pythagoras was one of the founders of numerology. He assumed that everything on earth can be calculated back to numbers. The diagram below shows how he linked letters to numbers.

Numerology assumes that numbers in someone's life are not accidental, but that it can say something about who you are and where your path lies. For example, numerology can also calculate your name back to a number, and you can use it to make an analysis based on your birth name. With this analysis you can then say something about the meaning of your name. This analysis can be done in several ways. For example, the sum of the letters of someone's first name can be made, or the sum of someone's last name, but sometimes only the vowels, only the consonants or the first letter are looked at.
